Jessica Simpson looked slightly disheveled as she left a tanning salon in Woodland Hills following a one-hour appointment on Monday.

While walking back to her car, alongside her daughter, Maxwell Drew Johnson, and a family friend, the 43-year-old singer’s clip-in hair extensions were visible on the top of her head and from the side.

For her laid-back outing, the best-selling author, who has built a successful retail empire since launching her first clothing brand in 2005, sported a grey sweatsuit, green slides and white socks.

She rocked a bright red manicure, a pair of oversized Gucci sunglasses and could be seen sipping out out of a large orange tumblr.

Her little girl, 11, wore a black hoodie with a horse on it, grey shorts and a blue cast around her left arm, signed by her friends and family.

It is unknown how Maxwell, who is close friends with Kim Kardashian’s daughter North, hurt her arm as neither Simpson or her husband Eric Johnson have publicly addressed the injury.

Simpson is currently preparing for the release of new music, which she confirmed during a 2023 interview with Footwear News

The entrepreneur began her sit-down by revealing that she had been recording music in Nashville after temporarily relocating from Los Angeles for a summer getaway.

Simpson stated: ‘Writing music has become a beautiful therapeutic thing for me that I didn’t know was so natural, but it’s because I haven’t done it in so long. It’s just nice to know that I’m meeting myself back in this place.’

The performer also stated that she had felt ‘a sense of freedom and empowerment’ while working on her new tracks.

The singer also teased her return to music during a 2023 interview with E! News, where she alluded to self-producing a new record.

‘I’m building my own platform. I’m doing it for the first time—the way I would—without a label telling me I need to do this song or use this producer. It’s all me,’ she said.

She added that she had ‘Pinterest boards upon Pinterest boards’ full of ideas for her music videos saved.

Simpson has not made an official announcement regarding the debut of her new music as of yet.

The performer’s most recently-released album, entitled Happy Christmas, made its debut on November 22, 2010.

The album’s lone single, entitled My Only Wish, was made available to fans just eleven days before the record’s release.

Happy Christmas was met with mixed to positive reviews from critics following its official debut.

However, the record only peaked at number 123 on the US Billboard 200 chart, although it made it to the ninth-highest spot on Billboard’s US Independent Albums listing.

In November, Simpson re-posted an ‘unrecognizable’ photo of herself from six years ago as she reflected on her life before getting sober.

The Dukes Of Hazzard actress revealed in her memoir, Open Book, that she went quit drinking in 2017.

The unflattering snap sees the blonde beauty look nothing like her usual self, while wearing a pink track suit as she sits in a dark room.

In the original caption Simpson wrote: ‘This person in the early morning of Nov 1, 2017 is an unrecognizable version of myself.’

She went on: ‘I had so much self discovery to unlock and explore. I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity.’

‘Personally, to do this I needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction and quite honestly I was exhausted. I wanted to feel the pain so I could carry it like a badge of honor.’

Simpson continued: ‘I wanted to live as a leader does and break cycles to advance forward- never looking back with regret and remorse over any choice I have made and would make for the rest of my time here within this beautiful world.’

‘I can’t believe it has been 4yrs! It feels like maybe 2. I think that is a good thing. Ha. There is so much stigma around the word alcoholism or the label of an alcoholic. The real work that needed to be done in my life was to actually accept failure, pain, brokenness, and self sabotage.’

‘The drinking wasn’t the issue. I was. I didn’t love myself. I didn’t respect my own power. Today I do.’

‘I have made nice with the fears and I have accepted the parts of my life that are just sad. I own my personal power with soulful courage. I am wildly honest and comfortably open. I am free.’

In her memoir Open Book she talked about getting sober. ‘I was killing myself with all the drinking and pills,’ she said. ‘Giving up the alcohol was easy. I was mad at that bottle. At how it allowed me to stay complacent and numb.’

Therapy was not as easy: ‘With work, I allowed myself to feel the traumas I’d been through.’

In an interview with Bustle published in July, she adamantly denied using Ozempic and insisted she slimmed down through ‘willpower.’

‘I am fortunate to have been every size,’ she said. ‘For [my] brand, understanding the women [who buy our products], and for my psyche.’

Still, she said people making comments about her looks ‘hurts.’

‘Am I going to let the negativity derail me? No, I’m too old for that. I am too connected to myself right now to let that derail me. It doesn’t mean that it doesn’t hurt,’ she said.

Over the summer, she also spoke about how she does not understand why there continues to be a conversation about her weight.

‘I think it just doesn’t need to be a conversation,’ she told Access Hollywood at the time.

Throughout her more than two decades in the spotlight, she has been open about feeling stuck on an endless roller coaster of yo-yo dieting and over-exercising to maintain her fluctuating figure.

While reflecting on her weight loss journey, which included losing 100 pounds after reaching 260 pounds during her pregnancy with daughter Birdie Mae, the performer talked about finding peace with her body after saying her role in the 2005 film Dukes of Hazzard created an unrealistic ‘gold standard’ for her body.
