Kevin Costner is not a happy camper. The Hollywood legend, who is going through a divorce with his wife of 17 years, Christine Baumgartner, had a heated confrontation with a tech mogul who was renting a guest house on his $145 million beachfront compound in California.
According to The Sun, Costner, 68, was furious when he found out that his estranged wife, 49, had been spending a lot of time with Daniel Starr, 42, the founder and CEO of a software company, while he was away filming his hit show Yellowstone.
Starr had been paying around $64,000 a month to stay in one of the luxurious homes on Costner’s 10-acre property in Carpinteria, near Santa Barbara. He reportedly became close friends with both Costner and Baumgartner, and even hung out with their three kids: Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13.
But things turned sour when Costner discovered that Baumgartner and Starr had been “hanging out a lot” in his absence. A source told The Sun that Costner “hit the roof” and had a row with Starr, who denied any wrongdoing and claimed he was just being a good friend to Baumgartner.
The source said that Baumgartner “must have been lonely” while Costner was busy working, and that Starr was a “respectful guy” who didn’t “cross any lines”. However, Baumgartner apparently didn’t appreciate Starr’s attitude and texted him to say she wanted him out.
Starr has since moved out of the estate and is looking for another place to live. Meanwhile, Costner has filed court documents to force Baumgartner to leave his property as well, citing their prenuptial agreement that gives him sole ownership of the estate.
Costner and Baumgartner announced their separation last month, after months of living apart. The couple married in 2004 and have three children together. Costner also has four other children from previous relationships: Annie, 39, Lily, 36, Joe, 35, and Liam, 27.
The Oscar-winning actor and director is best known for his roles in movies such as Dances With Wolves, The Bodyguard, Field of Dreams, and The Untouchables. He currently stars as John Dutton, the patriarch of a ranching family in Montana, in the popular drama series Yellowstone.
