Taylor Swift Shakes Off Meghan Markle’s Podcast Request

Taylor Swift is known for her catchy songs, her loyal fanbase, and her fierce independence. She is also known for saying no to things she doesn’t want to do, even if they come from royalty.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the pop superstar rejected an invitation to appear on Meghan Markle’s podcast Archetypes, which was supposed to feature interviews with influential women. The podcast, which was cancelled by Spotify earlier this month, only produced 12 episodes in three years.

Swift, who is on a world tour, reportedly received a “personal letter” from the Duchess of Sussex, but declined through her representative. The singer did not even bother to respond herself, in what could be seen as a snub to the former actress.

Markle, who parted ways with Spotify along with her husband Prince Harry, had trouble finding guests for her podcast. She also faced criticism for being too demanding and changing her mind frequently during the editing process.

Harry, meanwhile, struggled to come up with an idea for a podcast of his own. He explored topics such as veterans, misinformation, and his perspective as a newcomer to America. He also considered co-hosting a show with comedian Hasan Minhaj, or interviewing controversial figures such as Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, and Mark Zuckerberg.

It seems that the royal couple’s podcasting dreams did not go as planned. Maybe they should have taken some advice from Swift, who sang in her hit song “You Need to Calm Down”: “You just need to take several seats and then try to restore the peace / And control your urges to scream about all the people you hate / ‘Cause shade never made anybody less gay.”
