Usher thanks ‘queen’ Rihanna for showing her support for his upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance: ‘Real recognize real’


Usher thanked Rihanna for her support of his upcoming Super Bowl halftime show in a post that was shared on his X account on Thursday.

The 45-year-old singer reposted a clip of the 35-year-old hitmaker speaking about his planned performance, which is set to take place in February of next year, during the Fenty x Puma Creeper Phatty launch party, which occurred earlier this week.

The performer – whose appointment as the show’s headliner received a mixed reception from fans –  also wrote a short message of his own to the Umbrella singer, whom he described as a ‘queen,’ and expressed that ‘real recognize real.’

During the launch party, Rihanna, who performed during the most recently-held Super Bowl earlier this year, was asked about what advice she would give to the Burn singer.

The performer exclaimed: ‘I can’t give Usher no advice! Usher is a natural, he’s a legend and he’s been doing this since he’s a teenager.’

Rihanna went on to state that the singer showed that he could successfully captivate crowds during his recently-held residency in Las Vegas. 

‘He’s made for that show. I get excited about entertainers who do this, who are built for it and he just proved that in Vegas that he’s not going anywhere,’ she said.

The Only Girl (In The World) singer made headlines after she announced her second pregnancy during her show, which was received well by critics.

It was revealed that Usher had signed on to headline the halftime show of the upcoming Super Bowl LVIII, which will take place just outside of Las Vegas, this past September. 

At the time, the hitmaker provided an official statement to express his enthusiasm for his forthcoming performance.

‘It’s an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before,’ he said.

Jay-Z also provided a statement to show his support for the Grammy Award-winning performer.

‘Usher is the ultimate artist and showman…His remarkable journey has propelled him to one of the grandest stages in the world. I can’t wait to see the magic,’ he said.

The NFL’s Head of Music, Seth Dudowsky, stated that the company ‘couldn’t be more excited to have him headline this year’s Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show.’

The singer recently spent a considerable amount of time in Sin City during his residency, entitled Usher: My Way, which was held at Dolby Live at Park MGM.

The show kicked off in July of last year and featured hits from across his decades-long career as a songwriter.

Usher continued with his show for over a year before the final performance of his residency, which took place earlier this month.
